Hi guys,

Yes I'm breaking lent for this, and it's not good news. I'll only be breaking lent for the car since i'm looking for parts.

For the last few days, I was all excited for putting the new head into the car.

I took out all the cooling parts and cleaned them all. Took out the manifold valve cover and old existing head and cleaned every single bolt and nut with a toothbrush so I can finally get this car going....

I went out to get some fluids for the change and I come back my pop is like, we have a problem and I guess theres 2 cracks in the cylinder bore (4th and 5th one) and he just told me to halt everything until we get a re-build-able one so we don't waste any money.

Pretty pissed about it, because I have to wait...again...yet on missing meets I've promised to start up, and just simply not having my lovely e30,but right now I'm just staring into the positives...I've took Criss' advice and soaked in everything I can learn about the M20. 2 if I wait a little longer this car is gonna last me another lifetime. Once finished and once running it's gonna take me a little bit to get going on the build since my brother and I are buying a house so I can't be spending money I need on my car but on my future. Last once running I'm going to meets every damn week fck it! 4x4 status [Words of Nimitz] Razz

Criss you have a PM

wtb m20 block....

Buy a complete running m20. They can be found cheap and will be a lot less expensive in the long run.

Brought up that idea yesterday, even tried my luck with an M50 Laughing

He's that kinda guy who likes to know if it's his work he would be more satisfied knowing if there was a problem the only person to blame would be himself.

Sounds like a waste of money to me. If you pull a running M20 out of another car and just freshen up the timing belt/tensioner/water pump and other related hoses while it's out of the car, you're probably looking at $300 to be back on the road. If you get a block, get it tanked/cleaned/magnafluxed/etc you're looking at $400 at least before you even put it in the car. Then you have an entire gasket set and all the other incidentals to buy. All to go back into a car worth ~$2000. Doesn't make sense.

If he's set on getting a new block, hold out for a superETA (1988 E motor) bottom end. That way once you've put $1000 into the motor you'll have something to show for it, a 2.7i. Everything that came off of your car will bolt right up to a supereta, you won't need anything else. You will still need to buy all the "while I'm in there" stuff like a water pump, tensioner, cam seals, all gaskets, etc.

Good luck whatever you decide.

Tim

thanks for the advice Tim, I'll take it up to him the next morning when I call him about the car to discuss the details on what is going to happen.

I say, don't be hard on yourself for the Easter season. Pray for forgiveness, cuz He knows your heart. Yeah He knows you want to fix your ride, but then He wants you to know Him†

I don't know what your budget is, but, personally, since it is the head, grab another, hot tank it, rebuild it and slap it in and call it a day. NVM50 sounds sweet, there's more to it than just purchasing a running M50. A running M20 may be your best bet. Actually it really matters what your Tatay wants di ba? You'll make the right decision and be up an running in no time.

It's the block, not the head. And doing a swap is a lot more involved than buying a motor.

...ah, then an M20 FTW. Yup, I think that's your best bet. Then when you buy your house, save up for your M50.

Update is dad bought the block from some place he always buys parts from it's heading to his work then he's going to drop it by at my house. Don't know if I can work on the car during the week since my brother and I have to go check out some houses for sale in my area. Tim I really wished I could of done something good for the car, but my pops is that kinda guy who likes to do everything his way or no way so I basically have no say in it since hes dishing out all the mula on this project, I will take as much pictures so I can take this into memory because this is a 1st time thing for me so if there's a next time [hope not] I would know what to do. I guess this will be my project thread Very Happy @ Cliff yeah, going to church [st.micheals] tomorrow to confess haha since it's only 2 blocks away I might as well go.

Too bad I didn't take any pictures of me taking stuff off, but I will post everything from here on out just to show Jake what I told him I'd do from now on, Legit work....no half ass-ing everything like I used to do

Thanks for the comments of support guys

For what it's worth, I feel your pain.
Just found out the bad news (=all= the valves are bent. Again.) Time to go on the ramen diet, & throw every $ into the "I-just-want-my-car-back" fund... Crying or Very sad (crying doesn't really begin to cover it)
